Frangipani 'Species Mixed'
Seed purchased from Thompson & Morgan with the ideal of it looking something something like this:
An attractive and exotic, deciduous foliage plant, with large, shiny green leaves, which is best known for its showy clusters of waxy flowers produced over a long period which have a delicious and intense fragrance. Sometimes called 'Temple Trees', the Frangipani is grown throughout the tropics, and in Hawaii their long-lasting flowers are used in Leis. The mixture we offer is harvested from pink, red, white and yellow flowered hybrids. Height 1-3m (3-10ft), Flowers summer. Requirements: They are best grown in the greenhouse or conservatory In large pots or tubs. They like sunny conditions such as suit cacti and need a minimum winter temperature of 13C (55F).
December 2015, seeds purchased
22nd February, we have seedlings. From the 6 seeds I had 4 sprout, 2 with the seed shell stuck over the leaves. On one i tried to pull it off and snapped the head off the plant killing it (bottom stump in the picture below), the other one with the seed shell over the head I left but that died too so not sure what advice to offer to people with the same problem- be careful taking it off I suppose.
1st May 2016
10th August 2016
One has grown strongly
The other is still quite a bit smaller and not very healthy looking:
24th September- I have re-potted them. Roots are good on one but poor on the other
December 7th- These didn't like the cold that came with the start of winter , and shed their leaves. I brought them indoors and they have grown new ones, but are plagued by red spider mite. I might be better letting them go dormant in the greenhouse
