Musa Sikkimensis 'Bengal Tiger'
Summary
Allegedly as hardy as Musa Basjoo, I think its hardiness is variable and you get luck of the draw as some people have lost theirs in comparatively mild winters. I have never protected mine over winter and it has not lost any stem height, yet...
2011
I Bought my sikkimensis online as a dry corm, arrowed below in its early growth in January 2011:
By July it was just over a foot tall and it was planted out in the garden
Come September I dug it up as I didn't want to lose my only one, and I didn't know how hardy it was
2012
By June 2012 it was planted out and growing
Showing some nice markings on the leaves
August 2012
At the end of August 2012 I dug it up as I was doing some work in the back garden and it was in the way, it was potted and put in the front garden, it was about 4ft tall not including the pot
2013
By now I had a greenhouse so it spent the winter in the greenhouse, and was planted out in the spring into the new back garden borderAt the end of 2013 it was up to around 6-7ft with a 3ft pseudo stem, it was left in place and unprotected for the winter
2014
It resumed growth in April
July
September. compare the growth with the Maurelii next to it!
2015
September
The plant has less vibrant markings as it matures, but the new pups still have fantastic leaves
November 8th
Still growing- excuse my frown
2016
April - I split the clump and planted 1 in the front garden
May 9th - Here on the right you can see it has started to grow, but not much yet
